What is higher than IP65

IP65, commonly known as Ingress Protection Rating 65, refers to the level of protection provided by a casing or enclosure against solid particles and liquids. It is widely used to assess the durability and resistance of products, especially electronic devices, in various environments. However, there are higher levels of IP ratings that provide even greater protection. In this article, we will explore what is higher than IP65 and delve into the technical aspects of these advanced protection standards.

IP66: Enhanced Protection

One level higher than IP65 is IP66. The '6' in IP66 indicates a higher level of protection against solid objects such as dust and dirt. This rating ensures that zero ingress of dust particles occurs, making it suitable for environments with high dust concentration or heavy exposure to airborne particles. Additionally, the '6' also indicates enhanced protection against water jets. An IP66-rated device can withstand powerful water jets from any direction without any harmful effects. It is commonly used in outdoor and industrial applications where robustness and durability are crucial.

IP67: Immersion Protection

Moving further up the scale, we come across IP67. The '7' in IP67 signifies complete protection against temporary immersion in water up to a certain depth. Devices with an IP67 rating can be immersed in water at a depth specified by the manufacturer without affecting their functionality. This rating provides peace of mind in situations where accidental submersion may occur, such as water-related activities or dusty environments that require regular cleaning with liquid substances. In addition to protecting against solids and water immersion, devices with an IP67 rating often possess features like strong shock resistance and rugged construction.

IP68: Full Submersion Protection

The highest level of protection commonly found in consumer electronics and industrial equipment is IP68. With an IP68 rating, a device is not only protected against temporary immersion but also capable of withstanding continuous submersion in water beyond the specified depth for prolonged periods. This level of resistance is particularly important in applications where devices are constantly exposed to water or other liquids, such as underwater cameras, rugged smartphones, and industrial sensors. IP68 rating provides confidence in extreme conditions, ensuring seamless operation even in harsh environments.
